First off, do you know if they have any android phones, if so make sure it has a physical method of navagating the phone. It must have either a track pad like my my touch 4g, a track ball or a physical slide out keyboard. Also it would benifit you to have android 2.2 so you can use voice commands. I Last if you can go to a metro PC's store and physically hold the phones you might bee intrested in because when its said in done your the one who will bee with the choice of phone when its all said and done.

Thanks. I think they're starting to have Androids. But I will check that out.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I highly recommend you not getting Metro! It is cheaper & more cost-efficient, but there are more limitations than necessary in my opinion for a blind person. When my husband tried Metro, he wanted an android too. He asked if the Android talked & the guy said no, that they actually customize the phone with their programs & strip out anything they don't want, so they actually get rid of the speech. This way, they can allow their customers to have these phones & not have to charge so much. They don't think about thefact that disabled people may want to utilize their service too. Also, when you pay your bill, the website is total crap & they will charge you to use the phone to pay your bill. They also have amenusystem for tech support, checking minutes, etc, so when you try to dial 611 on your phone, the phone will tell you to use the menus on your phone which obviously is not accessible. The customer service we've had are rude, don't speak good English or they blow you off & don't wanna take the time to help you. Another thing to keep in mind is that Metro service primarily works in bigger cities, and not all big cities have it, so if you move or visit an area outside its range, your phone will not work. Also, if you call an area that does not have Metro, your call probably won't go through.

That's why I went with t-mobile. Though with sighted assistance to download and set up Mobile accessibility, Talkback or Spiel, the phones should then be accessible, regardless of carrier. also, calling someone, should not be an issue, even if the party being called isn't in a metro cellular area. still, a national carrier will be that much more rewarding.

I agree with the previous poster. It is possible to put speech back on to the phone with sighted assistance.

If you do end up getting an android, and you would like to listen to some podcasts about accessible apps for your phone, check out:
